(A picture story for the very young)

When Harlan Carlan was very young, he often pretended to be an airplane.

Zoom! Varoom! He would 'fly' around the room.

He landed in some very strange places, too.

One time, he landed on the fireplace mantel!

Another time, he landed in Rover's bed!

And once, he even flew out the window
and landed on top of his father's car!

He was the very first airplane at Kitty Hawk.

The Red Baron knew him well.

He carried Lindberg across the ocean,
and he flew all through World War Two.

As he grew older, became a small jet that flew faster than sound,
and when he grew up, he became a great big jet,
carrying passengers all around the world.

He flew with the Top Guns of the Navy,
and the Thunderbirds too!

So when you hear an airplane overhead
Do look up and wave.

It might be Harlan Carlan
… still pretending to be an airplane.
